First Aid for Mental Health Training - Requalification

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15TH 2023

We are delighted to welcome back our learners who have previously qualified as First Aiders for Mental Health, and in order to maintain their qualification need to requalify after three years.

Successful requalification ensures that First Aiders for Mental Health maintain their qualification, and may continue to display their electronic signature badge identifying themselves as fully qualified First Aiders for Mental Health. .

  • The requalification courses takes place over two live webinars on the same day, typically between 10am - 12pm and 1:30pm - 3:30pm. Requalifiers must attend both webinars on the same day, and attend a further session where an assessment will take place. There will also be some self-study learning materials sent to you prior to the course.

The next available requalification course date:

    Friday 15th September, 2023.

All of our courses are FAA Accredited and Ofqual regulated.

 FAQs

  • First Aid for Mental Health is a training course that we offer, which will give you the skills in how to help a person developing a mental health problem (including a substance use problem), experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis. For further information read our blog on the subject.

  • Sometimes it is known as Mental Health First Aid or FAMH or MHFA.

  • Like traditional First Aid, Mental Health First Aid does not teach people to treat or diagnose mental health or substance use conditions. Instead, our training teaches people how to offer initial support until appropriate professional help is received, or until the crisis resolves.

  • Yes, all of our learners receive accredited training certified and regulated by Ofqual, which is listed on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SCQF). All of our courses have been developed in association with the awarding organisation First Aid Awards (FAA). Some Mental Health First Aid Courses only award a certificate of attendance but ours is an actual qualification, which we think is much better.

  • Yes. You will receive one directly emailed to you shortly after you successfully complete your assessment

  • We think so, and our past learners think so too. We offer three live webinars on our live First Aid for Mental Health course, which will give you an opportunity to be a part of an online group; it will also give you the opportunity to practice scenarios and participate in discussions, and pose any questions you might have. Learners who register for the pre-recorded course will receive recordings of live webinars to aid their learning.

  • We usually accommodate a maximum of 16 people on any one of our live courses, online or face-to-face. On some occasions we can accommodate more people.

  • Yes, and we would be delighted to discuss any further courses you might feel are beneficial to you. Soon we will be introducing safeguarding training, please contact us to enquire

  • You must be 18 or over to do our courses. If you’d like us to train a group of young people under the age of 18, please contact us because in certain circumstances we can accommodate this

  • Our online/distance courses are open to anyone, anywhere across the world, but please check that the qualification is valid if you plan to use it outside of the UK.

  • We understand, and every learner having a positive experience of our training is important to us. We deliver all of our courses in a safe, supportive, thoughtful way and all of our trainers are very experienced in mental health. Sometimes learners bring real life experiences to the group discussions, but we always handle them sensitively and we will make sure that everyone feels safe and grounded throughout the training and ready to confidently and safely leave at the close of each course. The role of a First Aider for Mental Health is a specific role, which ensures the training is focused on performing only that role in a clear and specific way.
