What people are saying about our First Aid for Mental Health Training

  • Jeni Fodder

Sales & Marketing Executive for a large Housing Association

This course has been so insightful, I've never come away from a course feeling so fulfilled and enlightened.

Anyone that has a slight interest in anything mental health should really consider this course. The delivery of the course, for me is what made it so good, and I have the confidence now to take what I have learnt and am able to guide and support anyone who maybe in need; not just in work, in my day to day life too.”

  • Serena

Director of Key Stage 4 - Pastoral care & wellbeing

Working in the education sector, we have seen our funds to support young people dramatically cut.

This course has provided me with the information and guidance to not only support my students but also my colleagues. The course material and additional reading have provided a valuable insight to causes, triggers and places to signpost those struggling with mental health.

  • Sarah Wilkinson

I work in a very mixed role (EA, HR and facilities) and chose to self-fund the Mental Health First Aider course to enable me to help and guide those I could see struggling with Mental Health through the Covid-19 crisis and going forward.  Having had experience of grief-related anxiety in the past I wanted to have the tools to enable me to reach out to others to ensure they were doing everything possible to help to maintain their own mental health.

The course is very well thought out and taught me how to provide support and assistance for others whilst retaining boundaries and looking after my own mental health, something I was a little concerned about at the start. The course was run via Zoom webinars, a mixture of teaching and role play (not as daunting as it sounds and something I would encourage everyone to participate in). The training was engaging and interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The trainers were very professional, supportive and encouraging. I have already used the training received both at work and personally for those close to me and I now feel able to support, give guidance and signpost Mental Health assistance whilst having the resilience not to take on too much personal responsibility. I have learnt and recognise that, good mental health training does not replace good line management.I would highly recommend the Good Mental Health Company.

  • Debbie Nicklin

    Health and Safety Coordinator

For anyone who is looking to ‘dip their toe’ into the world of Mental Health, who have little or no knowledge and don’t know where to start, I can assure you The Good Mental Health Company is a great place to start. I emailed Sarah out of the blue to ask about the Mental Health First Aider course as this was a career direction I wanted to go in and I wasn’t sure if this was the right course for me; she responded to me straight away with good advice and support. I had no hesitations in going forward via this distance-learning route.

The learning materials you receive are so comprehensive, you can learn as much as you want and with the pre-recorded webinars to watch, they were invaluable and so insightful.

The people who attend this course come from all sorts of backgrounds and experience levels and do the training for all sorts of different reasons, I felt very at home in this environment.

Sarah and Ben are so knowledgeable, open and honest, down to earth good people and will assist, support and guide you with whatever you need. I cannot recommend this course or the Good Mental Health Company enough – so go for it, I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.”

    Managing Director - IO-Live Ltd

Undertaking a First Aid for Mental Health course is important at the best of times. Even more so during the pandemic we are experiencing in 2020, as greater numbers of people face uncertainty, stress and personal difficulties.

With genuine care, compassion and thoughtfulness Sarah & Ben provide an informative course which guides you steadily through a range of highly important aspects of Mental Health, illness and the First Aider's role. Thank you to all the team for a great and lasting learning experience. It has made a difference to me and will do so for anyone else taking the course.

  • Nikita Dixon

    Founder of Story Sense

I started up a new area of my business where I wanted to support mums with their mental health alongside other things. I was looking for a mental health course where I could provide as much support as possible without being a trained therapist, and the First Aid for Mental Health course stood out. After research, this course was the best value for money, and with a certificate at the end which many others didn't have. It was also fantastic that it would be online but also in a way that could fit around me.

Unable to get to the first live webinar, links were emailed to catch up later. I loved being able to still interact with others whilst distance learning and having face to face support if needed. The resources provided were easy to use and not overwhelming. By being qualified, I can now go forward and support new mums when they are at their most vulnerable, giving them and their baby the best possible start together.

  • Louisa Nicole Rose

Social Media Consultant - Mental Health Advocate

I wasn't sure what to expect when I got in touch with the Good Mental Health Company's Mental Health First Aid Course but from the first moment of contact with the team it was clear that I was in good hands.

The communication from start to finish was brilliant - always someone there to ask questions to and always with a speedy response. The course itself was organised efficiently via Zoom meetings and I felt that the content that was covered was both practical and professional.

During the assessment it became clear how well the course had prepared me. I'm really grateful to have gone through the process with Sarah and Ben and thank them for their support and guidance throughout. I'm confident that my accreditation as a Mental Health First Aider will provide others with reassurance that they are in safe guiding hands.

  • Cate Welmers

Teaching Assistant & student of Humanistic Integrative Counselling

The Good Mental Health Company has enabled me to better my skills and knowledge surrounding support for mental health within the workplace -something which is causing a huge problem all over the world. As someone who is about to begin training to be a counsellor, this course was a huge benefit to learn about different mental health conditions and how to help someone who may be experiencing something, which not many people understand. I feel much more confident to begin my counselling course after obtaining all this knowledge and practical experience.

The course leaders, Sarah and Ben, were extremely friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Questions were encouraged and they were happy to explain anything in more detail if required. I’d recommend this course to anyone who is looking to advance their qualifications, skills and knowledge surrounding mental health.

Description goes here“We all really enjoyed the course.

It has been so insightful, and we have come away feeling fulfilled and enlightened. We now have the confidence to take what we have learnt and use it to guide and support anyone who may be in need, but not just in work, in our day to day lives too.

We can all say how proud we feel to have done this course and it makes us feel like we are doing something so positive and constructive in breaking down stigmas attached to mental health issues.

Sarah and Ben made us feel so comfortable and at ease, they certainly knew their stuff, they couldn't be more helpful and the whole process ran very smoothly, from registration through to receiving our certificates. Anyone that has a slight interest in anything mental health, should really consider this course.

  • Giuliana Christmas

    Occupational Health Advisor

“I work as an Occupational Health Advisor. I trained as a general nurse and as part of this I did a 10 week mental health block – in 1982. Other than the occasional seminar and information gleaned from journals I have only learnt about mental health through experience in dealing with people.

Over the last 7 years there has been a steady rise in the volume of employees presenting with mental health concerns and in each of my clinics at least 25% of my caseload are likely to be complex mental health issues. As it had been a long time since my initial training, I began to feel out of my depth and questioned my competence. It was an encounter with a mental health first aider in a company that I was working with that brought the course to my attention. He came to me for support for a colleague who was presenting as suicidal. I was so impressed by how as a lay person he had handled the situation up to the point of handing the case over I decided to look into it myself.

I did the pre-recorded package; the course was well organized and all the resources used were pertinent so that I was able to follow it without difficulty. Any queries that I had along the way were answered promptly by the team, and Ben who took me through the assessment put me thoroughly at ease. Most importantly, the course has given me the confidence to start the difficult conversations I sometimes have with employees. It has also given me the ability to recognize contributing factors and those at risk of serious mental ill health, as well as the tools / resources to enable me to signpost/ acquire further support for those that I am dealing with.

An excellent course! I would definitely recommend it especially to everyone in any line management – supervisory role and The Good Mental Health Company as a provider for their heartfelt commitment to mental health and wellbeing.”

“Signing up was an opportunity for my personal and professional growth. I enjoyed taking part in the live webinars with other course participants and Ben and Sarah during the week. After the live training, I had a few weeks to go through all the materials at my own pace before completing the assessment. Living abroad, this format suited me perfectly! I'm happy I was awarded a certificate, which I've highlighted to my employer and asked to be added to my staff file. I expected the content would be relevant to my role, as I work with hundreds of people from all walks of life each week.

There are often flyers dealing with emotional distress on-board. In fact, during this unprecedented time, I've discovered that the course was even more applicable and helpful than I originally thought. I am in regular contact with team members and friends in the aviation industry who are dealing with a lot of uncertainty, fear and anxiety about the future. First Aid for Mental Health has almost become a life skill that everyone needs. It's even got me thinking about how I might further my studies in this area.”

  • Matthew Gardiner

    Lucid Search International

“My names Matt Gardiner and I recently completed and passed the First Aid for Mental Health Level 3 course with the Good Mental Health Company. I am a highly experienced recruiter and over the last few years been combining recruitment with a generalist HR service having completed the CIPD HR Management Level 5. I tend to provide a broad range of services to organisations and several have led to discussions around planning and implementing mental health programmes within the work place.

The course has provided me with a really thorough grounding of mental health and helped to formalised this knowledge. I therefore feel much more confident going forward. I really enjoyed the course and especially the passion and high level of support provided by with Sarah, Ben and Adeline. It was also great working alongside others on the course as we all share a genuine interest in mental health and a natural desire to help others. Going forward, I will certainly look to use these recently acquired skills both in the workplace and outside; plus to continue to develop and build upon this experience.”

Description goe“We wanted to introduce Mental Health First Aiders into our business to let our employees know that we take their mental health and their overall wellbeing seriously – not just as a tickbox exercise!

If you’re thinking of joining the course but haven’t quite decided yet, my advice would be to JUST DO IT! It’s honestly such a great course, you get to network with others, help and support each other, get great support from Ben, Sarah and Adeline and you’ve got a qualification at the end too. It’s a win-win!

The best bit of the course for me was the two webinars. It was great to meet Sarah, the facilitator, as well as have good discussions around the topics we were covering.

Now that I’m fully qualified, we’re creating our wellbeing strategy and slotting in where the Mental Health First Aiders will work with our HR team and shoulder-to-shoulder with the rest of the business. Really excited to see how this will enable better business results by investing more in our people and giving them the support that they need.”
